Maui is the second largest island in Hawaii as well as the 17th largest island across the United States. The island gets its name from the original founder of the islands of Hawaii’s son who was Maui named after a demigod. The landscapes in this area are very different from some other Hawaiian islands including volcanic cones, iron rich rocks and very dark soil. Some of the main attractions in this area are definitely the beaches as well as the Western volcano and Haleakala crater regions.
Maui is also a popular place to see humpback whales off the coast during their migration period. The island has regular charters and cruises to experience sea life in its natural habitat.
