Since 1985, HST Windsurfing & Kitesurfing School has been setting the standard for quality windsurfing lessons on Maui. Instruction for all skill levels is available year-round. Learn to windsurf, or take your skills to the next level with Maui’s best instructors.
We recommend private lessons for skill levels 3 and up, which will include waterstarts using footstraps, harness, planing and jibing.

Our instructors will help you reach your goals, whether it is waterstarting, shortboard sailing or jibing.
Waterstart:
Mastering waterstarts is the ticket to riding a shortboard. Once you achieve this challenging maneuver, you’ll wonder why it was so hard to learn. You will receive help rigging and tuning your gear from your private instructor
Shortboard Sailing:
There is more to riding a shortboard than just jibing. Sailing upwind, using a harness and footstraps, and fine tuning your sail are all skills that will help you sail with less effort. Learning with an instructor who will sail with you on the water makes all the difference
Jibing:
Improve your jibing skills with an instructor and end up completing more jibes than you miss. Falling at the end of a run means wrestling the sail out of the water, burning calories, and losing time – important commodities that you could have spent getting upwind or setting up for your next jibe or wave ride.
Requirements:
- Must by 7 years of age and older
- Minimum weight of participant 50lbs
- Maximum weight of participant 240lbs
