Group Transportation Options in Hawaii

Exploring Hawaii in a group can be a thrilling experience. There is always a unique sense of fun and bonding when the adventure is shared!

The only hindrance might be on your choice of group transportation service. For a great experience, you need to find a reputable service provider who will meet all your group traveling needs.

However, for you to get the most out of your tours, it is imperative to use a private means of transportation since the public means can be very unreliable at times. If you are planning on visiting Hawaii as a group, here are a few suggestions on group transportation options that you may want to consider:

On-Island Group transportation

When you are traveling to the main Hawaiian Islands as a group, there will be several transportation types available at your disposal. The specific mode you choose will depend on the size of the group, the level of comfort and convenience desired, and how far you want to go. With that said, the following options are available:

Car Rentals

Car rentals are available in all airports in Hawaii as well as in the major cities and towns. This is an awesome option if you are a small group and you want to have a great deal of convenience in your transportation. With this you get a car, or cars, that you can use for as long as you want.

Rental cars are also available in different sizes to take care of the varying numbers of group members. If you are only a few people in your group, a small sedan may suffice. However, if you are college students exploring Hawaii, then you can get a minivan(s) from the same rental locations to help you move around.

When considering this option, it is vital to book in advance, especially if you are a large group, so that you don’t risk missing out on the rental availability when you arrive.

Taxis

Taxis are another option available for group travel. They are readily convenient and you can find a lot of them at the airport and in the major cities and towns. With them you don’t need to make any bookings in advance. Just tell the hotel or restaurant staff to call a cab for your group when it’s time to leave.

Airport Shuttle Services

This is similar to rentals and you will find all the features that are present in the car rentals, only this option will chauffeur you from the airport to your hotel or resort, and then back to the airport. Most of them are offered by private companies, or provided by the hotel or resort at an extra charge.

Public transportation

Though this is not the most ideal if you want comfort and convenience, public transportation is also an option for group transportation in Hawaii. There are bus services on the Big Island, Oahu, Kauai and Maui, with very elaborate routes to give you access to most parts of the island. However, you will have to contend with the delays and inconveniences that sometimes frequent the public transportation system.

Inter-Island Flights

There are inter-island flights offered by Mokulele Airlines and Hawaiian Air, though there are also several private companies offering inter-island flight services between the islands. These flights are ideal if you are exploring the other islands directly from Honolulu international airport. There are over 160 daily flights to, and from, Honolulu International Airport, Kona and Hilo Airports on Big Island, Kahului and Kapalau airports on Maui, and Lihue Airport in Kauai.
